Why I Joined a Sorority: Graduate Chapter Edition

Hey guys!!! How is everyone doing!? I am doing great can't complain. I've missed you guys!! I know its been awhile since we last chatted but I've been gone with good reason.  After completing the 31-Day Blogging Challenge, your girl was burnt out!  I needed a break! Besides, I have had a lot of things going on all at once.  One thing in particular that I want to share is...the title is a HUGE giveaway...but I joined a Sorority.  Yup, if you follow me on any of my social media networks you would have already seen that I am a member of THEE FINEST sorority, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated (Zzzz-Phi to all my Sorors out there...hehe)!!

For the past couple of years, I've been feeling like I'm running on a hamster wheel of life watching friends, move to the next level in their lives.  Between those friends getting married, engaged and becoming homeowners. I've watched them create life changing foundations for their growing families, while I remain in search of something for myself.  Tired of watching from the sidelines while everyone else live their life, I declared that 2017 was going to be my year of change.  First up on my year of change was pursue a goal I had since college.

This was one of the biggest secrets that I have kept in a loooong time...and man was it hard!  Its been a few weeks since I've been a member and man the love I've been receiving has been tremendous!  Now that things have simmered down I am here to share with you guys four reasons why I joined a sorority.
1.) PROVIDE SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY
Giving back to those in need has always been important to me because it keeps me humble and grateful of what I have in my life.  As a member of Zeta I have been apart of wonderful volunteer experiences.  Recently I acted as a personal shopper for a young lady looking for a dress for her Senior prom.  The spectacular event was given by the Glass Slipper Project.  It was my first time volunteering the event and I must say it was really fun helping Jasmine find her prom dress.  It brought back memories for me when I was getting ready for my prom  fussing at my auntie of finding that perfect dress, shoes and hairstyle.  I was glad that I was able to eliminate some of Jasmine's frustrations of dress shopping and add my assistance in making her special night amazing.   After the event I felt really good.

Community Service events I've volunteered
 2.) BECOMING A POSTIVE ROLE MODEL/MENTOR
I have realized that in order to pursue your dreams and goals having a positive mentor or role model by your side is significant in success.  Mentors give inspiration, tough love and motivation to those who aspire for greatness.  Role models use their professional experiences and life lessons as tools to guide those in the direction of their goals.  I have had the pleasure to witness a very good friend as a mentor to many young women and the effects it has on them.  I am raising a daughter; I have young female cousins who I know are watching my every move. It's imperative for me to encourage them to always stay confident, strong, and resilient.   As a member of Zeta it is a goal  to be an example of positivity, class and hard work to those who are watching.

3.) ESTABLISHING A LEGACY OF SERVICE FOR MY DAUGHTER
When I leave this earth it was very important for me to leave a legacy for Savannah.  I know my mother wanted the same for me and it is in my heart to do the same for my daughter.  I strongly believe in living a life that is full of purpose.  Giving time and helping others is a selfless act that I want to instill in Savannah.  I want her to look back on my membership as a Zeta and be proud of what I have accomplished.  I hope that my commitment to Zeta would prompt her to follow in my foot steps.

 4.) SISTERHOOD
I am the only girl of six brothers. I've always wonder what it would be like to have sisters and now as a member I know what that feels like! I have gained 19 sisters! Can you imagine that! lol  I have met some AH-Mazing women.  My intake sisters have accepted me since day one which is a blessing.  Like sisters, we have had our ups and downs but through it all we have remained as ONE.  In a society that often likes to pit women against each other it is a awesome feeling to be surrounded by women who are continuously building and uplifting each other.  Establishing a sisterly bond is essential to me because if I am having a not so good day I now have sisters that I can lean on for strength and encouragement.   I am thankful for my intake sisters and other Sorors I have met thus far and I am eager for the many bonds that will form.

My Sisters
My journey with Zeta has just begun and I am very excited for what's in store.  As I continue this new chapter as a "Zeta Baby" stay connected with me as I bring you my experience.  I am ready for what is in store...and you guys know I love a good challenge...lol.  I hope this has given you a little bit of insight as to why I joined  Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Incorporated! If you are interested in learning more about Xi Mu Zeta graduate chapter that I joined feel free to check out the site!.  As always I love to hear from you guys.  What changes are you making this year to level up your life?  Share in the comments.  Until next time...See ya!

Welcome Soror, I bring you greetings from Gamma Delta Zeta Chapter, Great Lakes Region. I too waited until I was older to join Zeta Phi Beta Sorority Inc and it was the best decision I could have made. I am glad that your experience has been positive and I look forward to meeting you in the future.
Sisterly,
