Hey guys!? Happy New Year!! I hope everyone enjoyed the holidays! I am beyond late bringing you guys the latest of what's up with my braces and I'm Sorry! Lol
December 13, 2014, I reached my one year mark of my braces treatment. Yasssssss! Mannnn the first year went by fast. *insert happy dance here*
When I was initially told the length of my treatment I was thinking "Geesh this is goin to be forever!"
I began this journey with a ton of mixed emotions. I was excited, nervous and scared all in one. After several attempts I was finally making this change and that made me happy. Getting braces was a step in the direction of changing my self-esteem, which had hindered me for a long time. With so many other alternatives like the Invisalign, choosing the traditional braces route, my first thoughts was "OMG this is going to hurt," and "I'm going to look crazy."
Although this is a physical change, mentally I feel my confidence has elevated tremendously! Throughout out this process, I'm more open to talk and not so standoffish. I still consider myself to be reserve person, however I no longer shy away from conversation and do weird things to hide my mouth. I show my teeth off more than ever since the braces. I often use my braces as a conversation starter..lol If I see someone with braces, I instantly start asking them about their treatment.
Along the way there were minor adjustments that had to be made, like altering my eating habits, and having discipline to floss 3x a times. I couldn't eat things like before, cutting things up is my primary method for eating. The first couple months I would floss faithfully but I have slacked off quite a lot. Currently I'm looking into finding a easier way to floss. I'm thinking of trying the water pic.
My treatment is still going smoothly. Majority of my upper and lower gaps have closed. I had my most recent 6 week check up a few days ago and the plan is still continuing to close the remaining gaps. I have another year of treatment and if things go as planned I'll be free of my braces come this time next year!
Overall, I am glad about my decision to get braces. Of course I've experienced a few challenges along the way but this is definitely is a worthy investment! I highly recommend anyone one looking to make changes to research braces and or Invisalign.
As I enter my second phase of my treatment, any new changes and what's to come still keeps me excited! I will continue to keep you guys updated on my progress, until next time, Peace out!
